Fasten tabs to laundry tabs on inside of diaper. Prewash new diapers in any temperature water with ¼ of the manufacturer’s recommended amount of additive free detergent. For regular wash routine, wash cold with ¼ of the manufacturer’s recommended amount of additive free detergent. Wash hot with the same amount of detergent. Double rinse. Line dry covers, dry inserts on normal heat.

Washing Instructions

First Time User: the mission is to de-funk your diapers! To get rid of built up minerals and left over detergent do the following:

Fill your washer with hot water and 3 Tbsp* of Rockin’ Green, along with your diapers.
Let it soak for approximately 30-60 minutes. Then launder as usual, skipping the soap. If you have a HE machine, you may have to consult your manual but you can usually do a soak by pressing the start or pause button.

Tip: Repeat this process anytime you need a good deep-cleaning. If your diapers have excessive buildup or residue, it may take a few soaks to get them in good condition. For those with really hard water, you may find a quick soak before every wash helpful.

Washing Instructions: washing diapers and clothing should not be a complicated ordeal. Forget everything that you have heard, and keep it simple. You don‘t need extra boosters or add-ons with Rockin’ Green.

Savor the smell of your Rockin’ Green detergent…ahh…yummy….
Dump your diapers/clothes into the washer and do a cold rinse/wash to get the nasties out prior to the wash cycle. The more water, the better!
Add the detergent and do a hot wash. Use 2-3 Tbsp* per load. For HE machines or those with soft water use 1-2 Tbsp*. Rockin’ Green is good for clothes and diapers. So toss a couple tablespoons in there!
Double Rinse.

Pampers new Dry Max causing Severe Rashes

This is yet another Pampers post. If you use disposables full time or part time, I urge you to read this. Pampers are causing serious problems for babies. Don’t let your baby be next. If you can, use cloth. If you can’t please choose a brand better for your baby such as Tushies.
Today I saw something very disturbing. A friend of mine posted a photo (edited to not show her baby’s privates) of a very serious diaper rash. In fact, it is the worst I have ever seen. The skin looks like it has been burnt off. She was hoping to find some advice for treatment and causes until she could get to a doctor. Obviously her daughter is in pain and very uncomfortable.
A few people suggested it could be a chemical burn. My friend did a little digging and some dot connecting. The rash started after she began using the “new and improved” Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max. She found a facebook group dedicated to bringing back the old Dry Max diapers. In that group, consisting of 728 members, she discovered many, many moms complaining of the same burn like rash. All of the rashes began after using the new Cruisers with Dry Max.
She has since started using another brand of diapers and is in the process of beginning cloth again after a hiatus.
While I nor she can confirm 100% that the rash is from Pampers Dry Max, the overwhelming number of mothers claiming severe rashes from this diaper is convincing.
Not that causing chemical burns isn’t serious enough, in typical big corporation fashion, it seems they are giving customers with rash complaints the run around.
Here is an excerpt from a customer service rep’s response to a mother complaining of a rash caused by Dry Max:

You know your baby best, but some factors that can contribute to the onset of diaper rash are diet/change in diet, diarrhea, teething, the use of antibiotics, upset stomach, etc. Taking all of these things into consideration, it’s hard to pinpoint the cause of your child’s skin irritation. If your baby’s condition doesn’t improve, you may want to speak with your pediatrician

My friend in particular was told her baby just needs to be moved up to the next size. How could a diaper rash possibly be caused by a smaller size? Leaking, yes. Rash, no.
And, in case you would like to see, this is what her baby’s rash looks like. Please be advised this is a graphic image and is hard to look at. After a doctor appointment she was told it was definitely from the Dry Max diapers which caused “contact dermatitis.”

Listen to a few of the rash concerns:

After 1 day on the new Cruisers, red, hot rash ALL over the bottom. I switched diapers immediately, and am already seeing an improvement with Triple Paste. He’s 15mo and on table food. No allergies, no antibiotics, no diarrhea, not teething.

Our 12 month old son has horrible burn-type rashes and we know it has to be the new Cruisers – the diapers really smell of a strong chemical. The odor becomes stronger when wet. He is on a diet of Enfamil formula and solid foods. We were about to switch him to milk, but are waiting until the rash clears. We have officially switched diapers (testing out Huggies).

These quotes come from a discussion with 25 replies, most of which are instances of severe burn like rashes. This thread attempted to compare diets and age to rule out other possibilities, and no matter if the baby was breastfed, formula fed, whole milk, or other, the rashes began with Dry Max diapers.
The loyal customers are enraged. Moms took their complaints to the Pampers Facebook Fanpage, only to have their complaints erased. Many were also banned from the page. Others left official reviews of the new Cruisers on Pampers’ website but it denied them saying their reviews had “vulgar language.” That is because the words “horrible” and “bad” speak the truth: how vulgar.
Another reason parents are enraged is the deception. Pampers began putting the new Cruisers with Dry Max into the old Cruisers boxes. Now, parents experiencing rashes are either diving into boxes in the store to compare, or switching brands completely.
But have these parents considered cloth diapers?!?! I think some cloth diaper manufacturers should utilize this Pampers fiasco to convert more moms to cloth diapers. Hey! Offer a special discount to members of the Facebook group.

Before my son was born I was warned about using disposables because of the chemicals. I didn't fully understand what that mean't and tried them the first few months. It now makes total sense to me that there are chemicals to make the diapers absorbent and those chemicals are touching your babies skin all the time.

I did further research after we switched to cloth and found that not only can the chemicals cause rashes and infections but they are also linked to infertility as well. Some studies also showed that cancer may be another side effect. Of course they can't be 100% sure because there are lots of other factors. I personally won't risk it.

I would like to start a new campaign called Friends don't let friends put chemicals on their babies. I don't say disposables because it isn't the disposable it is the chemicals. There are much safer alternatives.

Finding the right diaper pail
The first step is to get a pail or hanging diaper tote to store your dirty diapers until wash day which should be every 1-2 days. We recommend FuzziBunz In and Out Mess Free Diaper Bag it is super convenient come wash day and a takes up less space than a diaper pail. Or if you prefer a diaper pail we recommend Thirsties Diaper Pail Liner.Whichever method you choose is personal preference. If you are worried about odors you can shake a little Rockin' Green RG Pail Freshner in the bag or pail with every stinker. It comes in lots of yummy scents like Grape Soda and Cherry Lemonade. After you have a system set up that you like you are set to start cloth diapering.

Choosing the right type of diaper
Next you need to select the type of cloth diaper you wish to use, I hope this chart is helpful in your selection.

Prefolds	Since prefolds are not waterproof you need a diaper cover or wrap over the prefold. You can also use a Snappi Diaper Fastener to secure the prefold under the diaper cover/wrap to ensure the prefold stays in place.	Pros: Prefolds will stand up to lots of washing, you can send them off to diaper service for washing (just make sure you approve of how they wash them!), very affordable, quick drying.	Cons: Less convenient than a pocket or AIO style diaper, requires numerous initial washes to soften and become absorbent (at least 3 before use), prefolds can pill and sometimes it is hard to get a good fit.
Diaper Covers/Wraps	Diaper Covers are great because you just one over just about anything and you have yourself a waterproof diapering system. They are inexpensive and you only need 6-8 since you don't change them with every diaper.	Pros: Waterproof, comes in snaps or velcro for an easy fit, inexpensive.	Cons: Can wear out faster than a AIO or pocket, doesn't always keep messes in place, can be hard to get a good fit when using a prefold.
AIO's (All In Ones)	Most similar to a disposable diaper since there is no folding or stuffing.You may add a doubler for more absorbency.	Pros: Very convenient, waterproof, doesn't require any stuffing or folding.	Cons:Can be difficult to wash and dry since they are so thick, Not super absorbent unless you add a doubler or soaker, one of the most expensive options.
Fitted Diapers	Fitteds are not waterproof so you will need a diaper cover/wrap over them. They have a nice secure and snug fit.	Pros: Very snug and secure fit, easy to secure with snaps or velcro, generally made of soft cooshy fabrics, no folding.	Cons:Requires a diaper cover/wrap, can take longer to dry than a prefold.
Pocket Diapers	Pocket diapers are like a AIO in the respect that they are self sufficient. A pocket has a waterproof shell and a lining that keeps baby dry. You stuff an absorbent insert inside to catch liquid. Pockets are very absorbent and you can add more than one insert increase absorbency.	Pros: Very absorbent and keeps moisture off babies skin, waterproof, easy to secure with snaps or velcro, quick drying since diaper shell and insert are separated for washing/drying.	Cons: Pockets need to be stuffed before each use and inset must be removed before wash, outer shell needs to be washed after each use.

Washing Diapers

While everyone has a different washing routine and every washer is a bit different here are some steps to get you started. I recommend washing no more than 12-18 diapers at a time to ensure you diapers come clean and to prevent piling. You will also need to use less detergent when washing your diapers. The amount will depend on your machine and if it is a top or a front loader as front loaders need much less detergent. On average it is 1/4 as much as you would use for a normal load. I recommend and use Rockin' Green and the amount is 1-2 tbs.

Always run cold rinse and then a hot wash. ALWAYS use the highest water level setting for your machine If you don't you will get a nasty amonia smell to your diapers. To trick my HE washer I run cold soak, (sometimes cold rinse if they are really soiled) then hot wash heavy duty or your highest water level setting. The cold soak tricks my washer into thinking the load is heavier and uses more water on the wash cycle. You can also toss a wet towel in with your diapers to trick the HE machines.

Drying Diapers

Your can either line dry your diapers in the sun or dry them in the dryer. Line drying in the sun helps remove stains and brightens your diapers. Drying the in the dryer of course is faster and more convenient. Make sure you follow the specific temperature settings as specified by the manufacturer as each diaper brand can vary.

CD (Cloth Diaper) FAQ'sHow do you wash cloth diapers?
Generally you will first run a cold cycle followed by a hot cycle with soap. If your washer has a soak cycle first soak on cold then run a wash on hot. Using vinegar during your soak or wash cycle will help remove odors. Please see Diaper Jungle's detergent chart for detergent info.

How do you get out the poop?
We get asked this question by almost every new CD user. There is no simple answer and it is a question of personal taste. If you are the hands on type you can by a diaper sprayer that attaches to your toilet plumbing or a shower head and rinse your diapers over the toilet. If you would rather not deal with the mess you can just toss your diapers in a waterproof bag and wash frequently, every day to two days, to keep odors down. When your baby has more solid stools you can just knock the solids into the toilet or diaper genie and wash.

How many diapers do I need?
If you do cloth diapering full time I would recommend 12 diapers. That way you will have some to use when your stash is dirty or in the wash. I generally have a few more than 12 so that I can keep some in the diaper bag in case I run out of clean diapers or to have on the go. I also found this amount useful when we took a 3 day road trip because it was just the right amount to make it from home and back without a wash in between.

Why should I use FuzziBunz?
I really love FuzziBunz because they have snaps. My son is very clever and he could take off the velcro diapers at a very early age. Most of the time he wasn't running around in just diapers but even the short times he was it was very handy to have snaps. The fact that they have such a good fit helps keep messes contained.
